To search for a specific lawyer or firm by NAME, simply enter the name in the text box and hit "GO."
To search by area of law, you can either type the area or legal issue into the search box or select from a list of common practice areas by clicking the "choose from a list" above the search box.
Choosing from a list allows you to select up to nine areas of law for searching. Searching multiple areas of law will return lawyers who practice in all the areas of law you selected.

After determining your desired criteria, select "GO" or hit the enter key. The system displays a list of the lawyers and firms that match your criteria. You may then browse through those listings, narrow your search using the criteria on the left of the results page or edit your search and resubmit it.
Located in the upper right hand corner throughout the site is the Site Search area. Using this search box will search all areas of lawyers.com, including law and law firm listings, articles, tips, Ask A Lawyer archives, blogs, message boards and more. Enter a term, for example "tort," and select SEARCH. Browse the list of matching lawyers, articles, blogs, message board responses, etc. You can also choose from the drop down to search a specific area of the site

Type in a TERM and select the SEARCH button to view its definition or see related terms. Not all diacritical marks display properly on the web so we've provided the Pronunciation Key at the bottom of the results screen. You can check the key to map the characters to get the pronunciations.

Understand Your Legal Issue
The Understand Your Legal Issue are of Lawyers.com brings together valuable content about legal issues and is organized by both area of law and life event. You can also access information pertinent to your specific state. Information included in this section includes articles, checklists, a comprehensive legal dictionary and access to legal issues currently in the news.
Discuss Your Legal Issue
Meet, interact and network with others on a variety of legal topics in the Discuss Your Legal Issue section. Here, you can review Blogs written by lawyers about their areas of expertise, post or reply to a question in our message boards, or participate in a live chat hosted by a member of our lawyer panel. This is a great area to get involved and gain advise from lawyers and other people like you.
Legal Help & Resources
The Legal Help & Resources section contains access to information about our court system, information specific to a given state, access to the U.S. Constitution and Federal Government Agencies, and access to your states Attorney General. In addition to this information, you can access Do-It-Yourself legal forms through our Legal Document Service powered by RocketLawyer by clicking Legal Forms in the left hand navigation area.

Your Profile
Your profile is completely under your control: you can update all or a specific piece of your profile at any time. Profiles include the following required information:
Email address: To protect your identity, our programming automatically hides your email address when you post messages to the message boards. Should you wish others to know how to contact you directly, "uncheck" the related box. This email address is also the address we'll use for private correspondence, such as resetting a forgotten password.
Display Name: This name is unique and visible to the general public when you post a message or participate in a chat. If you change your display name, the change will be reflected in all your previous postings as well as any new messages. If a name you wish to select is already in use, consider adding numbers to create a unique name.
User Name: You'll use this name with your password selection to login to the Web site. This name is not "case-sensitive" (recognized only when you use exact capitals or punctuation) or displayed anywhere on the Web site.
Password: Along with your user name, your password is required to complete login. Passwords are case- sensitive.
Zip Code: Providing your zip code allows us to know which geographic areas have a large (or smaller) Internet usage. This information helps us to prioritize specific areas where we want to provide more helpful legal resources.
Optional Information:City: If you'd like to tell us where you're located, feel free to do so.
Profile: A completed profile is accessible through your display name, listed with every message submitted to the site. Profiles are "not" available until a message board posting has been submitted. Your profile should always contain your state location as well as:
Activating Your Account
After successfully completing registration, an activation email will be sent to the email address registered to your account. The email will contain a link to a web page where you will be asked to insert your User Name, password and the unique activation code included in the email. Upon submission of this information, you will be logged into the site and may proceed to submit a message or join a chat.
Editing Your Profile
Select the message board which is the closest match to your issue. We ask that you select only one message board to post your message to instead of submitting the same message on multiple boards. This respects the time volunteers donate to the Web site when reviewing and replying to messages.
NOTE: Once your message has been submitted, you cannot edit or delete it. Be sure it says what you want before submitting it.

Chat Schedule and Access
Access the list of scheduled chats; chat times are "Eastern Time" with all events concluding 60 minutes from the listed start time
Entrance to a chat is allowed one hour prior to the scheduled start time of the event although questions may be submitted up to 5 days prior to the event.
Note: It may take a moment or two to load the chat program when accessing.
Pre-Submit Questions
You are permitted to submit a question up to 5 days prior to the start of a chat event. We'll make every attempt to address as many questions as possible during the chat event but can't guarantee all questions will be addressed. Please limit your question to a single concise submission of 1,500 characters or less.
Chat Archives
All chats transcripts are archived and available at the site 24 hours after the event.
